| This proportional understanding regarding urban densification is one of the most prevalent false statements. The data have been always distorted and abused in order to make them plausible to citizens. We will continuously restate the proportionally efficient densification and pursue non-proportional efficiency. In other words, we hope to restate it into 'the denser cities get, the more efficient they get only to certain degree'. World Changing: A user’s guide for the 21st century, edited by Alex Steffen New urban density configurations based on the intensities of public values: The background of the research begins from the need of new urban density maps not from the extensive, but from the intensive. ‘Urban intensity (UI)’ is set to find out new urban density configurations based on the intensities of public values such as transports, parks, shops, daylight and permeability. With new urban agglomerations, UI aims to generate new vertical typologies through synchronising the heights of the buildings with the intensive values. Urban topography is no longer controlled, but it becomes the output of ‘matter organisation’ – refer to the postscript. That implies that developers can plan buildings as high as they want as long as they obtain satisfactory scores from all the intensive items, not only public assets, but also daylight, spatial and socioeconomic infrastructures. This inevitably engages the improvement of vertical transportation technology of the buildings and the accessible qualities around the buildings. UI has been developed with continuous advice from Richard Rogers and it plans to be published and presented in various media.
